City of Miami Assistant Fire Chief Veldora Arthur federally indicted for mortage fraud.

Here's the indictment...

veldora arthur indictment

Consider for a moment who Ms. Arthur is within the City of Miami Fire Department, oddly enough her responsibility is to oversee the financial matters of the Fire Department including payroll and procurement.  Who exactly do we have behind the controls at the City of Miami?  Ms. Arthur makes $184,336.44 as an assistant fire chief, in this day and age, is that not enough to get by on?

What's even more disturbing is the fact that she was arrested ten days ago on an indictment from late 2010, yet we haven't even heard a peep out of the local media.  What happened to the perp walk or the press release?  Ms. Arthur and crew were charged with a nearly $11,000,000 mortgage fraud scam and the media is mute?  What gives here folks?

Ms. Arthur is out on $125,000 bond, we'll have a full break down of the indictment coming on Wednesday, stay tuned.

  2. Veldora Arthur is also Chief Mo Kemp's long-time lover. They have been having an affair for almost 10 years. He's promoted her time after time. Now you know why.

This bitch has been promoted throughout the years and yet she was never seen in the City or have never produced anything of significance, except for Maurice Kemp. I won't call him a Chief, because he's anything but a chief. He is a token and not qualified, but is there once again because of the color of his skin.

  3. Let's pray for this poor woman and hope that she gets through this horrible ordeal.

  4. She was a failure as a firefighter .On the floor less than a year .Faked an injury at the Woolworth. Fire and never again rode a truck.A disaster as executive assistant .And promoted by her close friend to Chief .

  5. Arrests are 11 days old, no mention of anything in the Herald.

  6. Brilliant graphic. This shit is on fire, it's the City of Miami government that's burning but no one cares to properly report it.

  7. Veldora Arthur comes in at 10:00 and leaves at 4:00p.m. She doesn't come in to work, but does not take any time off the books. Works, better yet, shows up to work for 20 hours a week.

THESE ARE OUR SO CALLED LEADERS AND MANAGERS. NO LEADERSHIP, NO VISION, NO WORK, NO DIRECTION, AND COMPLETELY UNQUALIFIED. THIS IS WHERE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS HAS GOTTEN US.

  8. She's been a failure where ever she's been assigned to. Except for mortgage fraud. Should have been fired in fire college. Every area she's been respondsible for has been none productive, missing in action. And, yes her work hours are a joke. That's what happens when you bang your way to the top.

  9. She is a the laughing stock of the City of Miami Fire Dept. Ask anyone about her and they laugh. Complete joke i'm sure she will squeal and get off as they all do.

  10. To get the facts straight, she was quoted as saying "I rose through the ranks to become Division Chief". This girl was barely out of probation, faked an injury and has been in several 40hr assignments. She was never a firefighter, never rode on a 911 emergency unit as Lieutenant her current rank. Was never a Captain nor a District Chief. She's someone sugar mama and undeserving of her respondsibilities. Just ask anyone about our current chaos within our payroll. They gave her 10 other front line personnel to help and solve problems. And, its worst now than ever before. Those 10 bodies are the reason we're placing units out of service daily.. total joke, total incompetence.

    Thanks for your vigilance>

  12. You guys are no better. You state that she puts forth a poor product, works a short work week and yet allow her to lead your organization. Now that she has been exposed you are scrambling to disassoicate from her. This would have meant more had you, her brothers and sisters, exposed her before she exposed herself.

  13. There were times when employees tried to expose her for what she was but it was always squashed at the top or on the way to the top. There was even information sent to the mayor, city manager, and all commissioners and all that happened was the previous city manager sent it to the fire chief as an FYI. She was still promoted.... Then there was the media who wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole even though there was an official EEOC complaint against her. The city of miami top leaders don't care about anything but their pockets. That is why they are a joke and have made this city the laughing stock of south florida for the last 20 years.

  14. We never associated with her and still do not. What is being written in the comments is nothing new except for those of you that do not and have not worked with her or for the fire department. It's been very disheartened to see hard working, dedicated people so disollutioned with their jobs because of these types of decisions. Hand picking or promoting people over people that actually go through the ranks and do well in the promotional exams should not be allowed.

  16. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but for those of us that have personally worked under Lt. Arthur we know that she is a calculating, vicious, greedy tyrant. Stepping on anyone in her way. She is notorious for that fake injury and has spent the last 20 years falsifying documents and altering employee personnel (the black ones of course) folders to get them promoted into cushy positions the same way she weaseled her way into the "assistant chief's" joke of a position she holds now. She is dirty and always has been. Who ever said "pray for this woman" in the earlier comments, I'll have you know that I am praying alright. Praying she gets EVERYTHING she deserves. And as for Chief Kemp's role in all this...how transparent can you be? I'm glad they're all dropped because soon enough they'll be someone else's nightmare. God willing: Good riddance V. Arthur and never come back. Kudos to you StrawBuyer!

  17. Isn't there a charge called "conduct unbecoming"? How can you embarass the entire fire service in Dade County let alone the City of Miami and still remain on the job?

    ReplyDelete
  18. pray for this woman? you have got to kidding!!!!!
we need praying for us, that let this type of person into a job that has any effect on the public like that job does. its a waste...she is a waste...anyone that would pray for her is a waste!!!

  19. Ok ... It's the rank and files fault that she is a chief .Right ..Kemps other assistant chiefs advised him not to promote her to chief . Did he listen. No. To openly oppose her is career suicide. And anyone on the fire department dealing with her knows to have all communication in writing. She has tired to Throw me under the bus . Thank god I had the e mails . The brass should be ashamed that they have let this go on for over 2 decades .Gimenez Bryson and. Kemp are all guilty of being too scared to actually make her produce .The first black female on the Fire department has remained unaccountable and untouchable for years .

  20. Was she supposed to be working 40 hours a week?

  21. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck it must be a duck. If it's too good to be true it usually is.

I find it hard to believe that someone who has risen to the position of Assistant Fire Chief is so stupid to think that they could buy "a pair" of Adventura condos. priced at 1M each, with no money down, sign closing documents as an owner, and then get a check back not be doing something wrong.

What is wrong with our country now is that individuals who are here to protect our citizens, whether it be as a police officer, judge, politician, clergy, assistant fire chief, have the responsibility to set a standard and example for the rest. When they choose to ignore that responsibility, they are setting an example that criminal behavior is acceptable if you get away with it in the court system by hiring a great attorney. They also ignore the example that they are setting for our youth, many of whom feel that there is no reason to follow the laws because the lawmakers don't. The apathy of our citizens is a result of so many years of unethical and corrupt behavior going unpunished. These children will be making decisions down the road that affect us.

Instead of keeping her job until proven innocent, this woman should be put on unpaid leave until this is resolved. She is not an ordinary citizen, she holds a position that we must respect and therefore has the additional burden of making sure she is squeaky clean. Obviously she was caught through the result of investigation and not just arrested on a whim - if it turns out that she was unjustly accused of signing her name to false documents and collecting money for nothing (and it is not a result of having a good attorney who wants the public spotlight), then she should get her job back, but is seems unlikely that with all those things in place, that she either knew what she was doing or chose not to know so that she could make a quick dollar.

We have politicians who have sexually abused pages in the Senate retaining their jobs, police officers on the west coast who were discovered forging college paperwork for colleges they weren't registered to getting reimbursed for their "tuition", having their hands slapped and told they have to pay it back while keeping their jobs. Why should we trust these criminals, let them hold a position of authority, and why should they keep their jobs? The answer is that the system is so corrupt that the average citizen just says "oh well, that's what happens" instead of screaming out for justice.

Kids learn by example - that is why if a child sees something that he wants that belongs to someone else that he should just take it because he wants it - if he bully's someone because he just doesn't like them, it is ok because he wanted to do it.

The only way to take back our ethics is to speak up - the Constitution gives citizens the right to get rid of those who are not acting in the best interests of the citizens, but unfortunately, many of those who make the decisions are corrupt themselves - that's how they got there and apparently our Constitution has been forgotten.

WE NEED TO START SETTING SOME EXAMPLES AND HOLDING PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE - WE SHOULD BE SCREAMING!

  22. That is so well said. What happened to our role models and the role models for our children?

This woman should be relieved of duty. As should all public safety personnel who have been indicted.

  23. Have we forgotten who we are, what we stand for as Americans? Are we not innocent until proven guilty? Why is a brotherhood turning against it's own in such a manner that it makes the entire brotherhood look bad? Is there a need to make personal attacks that slander a person's name without ability to validate it? Why are racial attacks being made in 2011 that can only hurt everyone whether black, white, hispanic or anyother race? Are firefighters not dependant on each other for the saftey of there own lives? If she turns out to be guilty shame on her, those of you who have shown hate, shame on you.

  24. She needs to go! An executive in public administration is accountable for his or her CONDUCT in addition to his or her professional job duties. She has disgraced her City and the Fire Department.

    ReplyDelete
  25. No racial. Attacks should be allowed . But this woman has never been one of us . To be one of us you gave to actually. Do the job and in her 26 years she hasn't . It's no personal racial or sexist ... It's just the truth

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is not an issue of race, sex, or even "brotherhood". Ms. Arthur has chosen to lead a life some would call risky and criminal. She has audaciously acted in favor of African-American co-workers. Propelling them solely on the color of their skin. Consistently disregarding qualification and merit. She was a registered agent for an organization called the Professional Black Firefighters Axillary Association (http://www.corporationwiki.com/Florida/Miami/veldora-arthur-P1058589.aspx). An organization that exclusively promotes African-Americans into professional Fire positions. Moreover, she never showed any initiative or camaraderie toward fellow fire dept employees because, as stated earlier, she has coincidently only worked in 40 hour positions of authority. So be clear, this person has poor ethic and is as unprofessional and corrupt as they come. Never mind her race and sex, but instead acknowledge her conduct and track record with the City of Miami. Plainly said, she is a Bad Seed.

    ReplyDelete
  27. She is also guilty of theft of public funds by going to. College to get her degree on city time . That has also been swept under the rug by the administration

    ReplyDelete
  28. This kind of problem is widespread in South Florida. Many FD have corrupted officials at their head. Promotions are based on personal relation and not qualifications. The firefighters know it, the unions know it, but still no journalist or city manager want to do anything about it. Just dig around the number of EEOC complaint against FD management in the area, you'll be stunned.

But when you see weekly elected officials getting arrested for the same corruption issues, why do we expect the problem to be corrected.

We need the public starting to rise to demand to ditch out all these disgraced officials.

  29. I choose not to try her in the court of public opinion. I'll wait for the court's verdict....All those who choose to air her job performance to the public, first has nothing to do with her guilt or innocence and second, hurts the fire department as a whole.

  30. Praying for you all...
To all of you pointing your fingers and bashing this poor lady you need to take a look in the mirror. I could bet moeny that there are things that you have done that you are not proud of. You closets are full beyond it's capacity and at any moment can reveal your mess. Just remember that you to have to live this life and you never know when your shit can hit the fan.. Instead of bashing her lend a hand a help lift her up. You talk about brotherhood and who's a disgrace I am disappointed in most of the comments made. You to would take the place of someone else if given the opportunity to do so.. don't forget to take a look in the mirror.

  31. It is shocking to have found this out about Valdora Arthur n also the negative comments left about her. We may not know if these statements are true or just rumors due to her high position within the city. There’s a lot of bad said about Ms. Arthur but let’s shine the let on the good she did with the fire explorers me being one of those early explorers. Valdora was always there to help us in any which way and to steer us in the right direction when she saw or heard about the bad we were doing or about to get into. I was one, which many times Valdora had slap some sense into when she heard I was screwing up. People make mistakes no one is perfect I no am not and yet have met or found a perfect person in this world. I hope the best for her in these trouble times and that she learns from her mistakes. My blessing goes out to her and her family

  32. MFD used to stand for My Fire Dept, but the long years of working hard and trying to make a difference, in addition to studing and training to promote myself have left one of the most dedicated member of this dept devistated. So many have risen w/o merrit and ridding the race card that its sick. The game isnt over w/ Arthur, the out of place promotions and favors are still taking place ie. the Chiefs brother who has the same track record as Arthur. the new Capt is clueless of his job and refuses to learn it. This administration is a joke and we who have to face the public and deal with the incompitance of our leadership are powerless to do anything at all.
